Christian Descoups - Secretary General, Luxembourg Stock Exchange.
Graduated from the University of Nancy, France, in 1976, and from the “Ecole Supérieure d’Interprètes et de Traducteurs” (ESIT), Paris, France, in 1979. Studied at the High School of Commerce (Handelshoejskolen) in Frederiksberg/Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1977-78. Lecturer at the University of Nancy, France, from 1985 to 1987.
Joined the Luxembourg Stock Exchange in 1988 where he managed the International Relations Department until March 2000 and supervised press relations and the distribution of stock exchange data. In March 2000 appointed Secretary of the Board. He became “Secrétaire de la Bourse” in April 2001. Apart from serving as Secretary of the Board and of the Executive Committee, he has now been given additional responsibilities, ie Stock Exchange Membership and Communications.
He represents the Luxembourg Stock Exchange on the Management Committee of the Federation of European Securities Exchanges and on the Working Committee of the World Federation of Exchanges. Represents the Stock Exchange in various business associations (eg Chambre de Commerce Luxembourgoise-Chilienne, Chambre de Commerce Nobelux) and sits on a number of professional committees and workings groups of ABBL (Luxembourg Banks and Bankers Association) and ALFI (Luxembourg Investment Fund Association). Sits on the Board of Stelarlux Capital S.A., Luxembourg.
The Luxembourg Stock Exchange was created in 1928. Since it was launched, it has developed a specific know-how in the listing of and trading in securities from a wide range of regions. The Luxembourg Stock Exchange is a major listing centre of international bonds, equities and investment funds and currently lists 47,000 securities, among which 75% are international bonds. The Luxembourg Stock Exchange also lists 220 Global Depositary Receipts from issuers based in emerging or rapidly developing markets, such as India. In May 2007 it set up a partnership with NYSE Euronext to promote listing of and trading in international corporate bonds.
